Terms of Service

1. Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using ΙΕΡΟΓΛΥΦΩ (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. About the Service

  • ΙΕΡΟΓΛΥΦΩ is a free, browser-based tool for writing and studying Egyptian hieroglyphs.
  • No account or registration is required, and the Service is provided at no cost.
  • The Service runs entirely in your browser; the work you create stays on your own device.

3. Acceptable Use

  • You agree to use the Service lawfully and not to misuse it or attempt unauthorized access to it or its hosting infrastructure.
  • You must not distribute malware or harmful code through the Service.
  • You must not attempt to disrupt, overload, or interfere with the Service or other users.

4. Intellectual Property

  • The Service's software, design, and tools are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.
  • You retain all rights to the hieroglyphic texts and documents you create. Because your work never leaves your device, we claim no license over it.
  • The name ΙΕΡΟΓΛΥΦΩ and associated branding are trademarks of their owner.

5. Donations

  • The Service is free. Donations are entirely voluntary and are processed by PayPal.
  • Donations are not a purchase: they do not grant any subscription, paid tier, or additional features, and are generally non-refundable.

6. Service Availability & Disclaimer

  • The Service is hosted on third-party infrastructure and is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind.
  • We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation and may modify or discontinue features at any time.
  • To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the Service, including loss of work you have not saved.

7. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable at the operator's place of establishment, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Nothing here removes mandatory consumer protections available to you under your local law.

Privacy Policy

1. Our Approach

ΙΕΡΟΓΛΥΦΩ is designed to collect as little personal data as possible. There are no user accounts, and we do not ask for names, email addresses, or passwords in order to use the tool.

2. Information We Process

  • Your hieroglyphic work: created and stored locally in your browser. It is never transmitted to us. Documents you save (JSON or PDF) are downloaded directly to your device.
  • Contact messages: if you use our contact form, the name, email address, and message you submit are delivered to us via FormSubmit (a third-party form-to-email service) so that we can reply.
  • Donations: handled entirely by PayPal. We never receive or store your payment-card or bank details.
  • Server logs: our hosting and content-delivery providers may automatically log standard technical data (such as IP address and browser type) when your browser requests files, as is normal for any website.

3. What We Do Not Do

  • We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
  • We do not run analytics tools such as Google Analytics.
  • We do not sell or share your personal data.

4. Cookies & Local Storage

The Service does not set tracking cookies. To load faster and work offline, it uses your browser's local storage (IndexedDB) to cache dictionary data on your device. You can clear this at any time through your browser settings.

5. Third-Party Services

  • GitHub Pages — website hosting
  • Cloudflare (cdnjs) and Google Fonts — delivery of icons and fonts
  • FormSubmit — delivery of contact-form messages
  • PayPal — voluntary donations

These providers process your request data under their own privacy policies.

6. Your Rights

Because we hold almost no personal data, most requests will relate to messages you have sent us through the contact form.

EU/EEA & UK users (GDPR): you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and to data portability.

US users: you have the right to know what personal information we hold, to request its deletion, and to opt out of any sharing.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the form below.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update these Terms and this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date above reflects the most recent revision.
